Computer will not start, power cord ok, no sounds

So I left my computer unplugged for two and a half months while I was traveling. I came back and tried to start it but to no avail. The power cord is ruled out (works on my other computers), there are no sounds or lights and I'm not sure how to check the battery since it is not removable. Any suggestions?

Yeah I tried that and it didn't work. Unfortunately there is no response at all when I press the power button. I called a local computer store this morning and they told me that they think it is the motherboard and "not to bother sending it in, it'll be a waste of money to replace it. Just buy a new one." What do you think?
