A new MacBook Pro won't necessarily be faster than a 2 year old MacBook Pro, unless you understand exactly what the bottlenecks to performance are. For light computing you won't see a significant improvement on a new MBP. For CPU intensive use, then yes, a faster processor will result in improved performance. For most users, hard disk speed is the bottleneck, and for this reason the best upgrade is to install a SSD drive. As far as RAM goes, a 2-yr MBP can be maxed out to 8GB, the same as a new MBP. I suggest you upgrade the RAM and switch to SSD, and then, decide if you need a faster MacBook Pro. You may find that you can delay your upgrade for another year or so.
