Hi all , I need to reduce this Qucktime mov from 19GB to 8GB so it will fit on a disc, it is a HD 1920x1080 movie with audio , I need to keep the same aspect ratio, is this possible to do , which software would do the best compression ?

Apple Intermediate codec is an "editing" codec and not intended to be used as a "delivery" codec.
iMovie should be able to import the file and export it to H.264 and AAC audio. A lower data rate (about a third of the current) should make the file less than 2 GB's.
What is your intended use and why do you want to burn it to disc?
Thanks a lot for helping me out , The file is for sharing with people on Windows, if everyone was on a Mac I would just send the original file , I will give iMovie a go and report back, will have to be tomorrow now as it is late here, up early for work ! thanks again

The file should not be played directly from the disc because all drives can't keep up with the data rate of the file. Frames will drop and playback will appear to stutter.
Have the PC viewers copy the QuickTime file from the DVD to their machines for best performance.
It took a while but I imported my .mov and exported as Quicktime movie file and it worked well, down to 2.4 GB, the data rate went down to 6.998 , I couldn't find a way to control the data rate within iMovie, perhaps there isn't one ? anyway thanks you have been very helpful,

you can compress video, of course mov format, according to the output size(8GB). try to use video compressor software videocompressor.net, easy to use, you can choose to keep the original aspect ratio or change it as you want
Ok I must have been on the wrong page !! I dowloaded the mac demo version and couldn't get it to work at all, I only used the default settings and as soon as I hit the start button it crashed ..tried several times without any luck !! I have downloaded another I saw .. Wondershare Video converter..and my first attempt has turned out really good, so thinking of buying this one, anyone useing it ? have any problems with it ?

Hi QuickTimeKirk, yes that is true, but after trying other options I find that they MAY be better, for example I had to import to iMovie which took a long time , then convert which took quite a bit longer than ..Wondershre for example, I am just looking at all my options to find the best way for me, I appreciate your help ,

What is the file format (extension)? What made the file? Did you use iMovie?
Does it open in QuickTime Player or QuickTime X?
File format is .mov it was made in Fotomagico Slideshow software exported as HD movie, it opens in Quicktime player7 , thanks for the responce

Open the file in QuickTime Player and then open the Movie Inspector window to tell us more about the file.
Duration, codecs, etc.
Apple intermediate Codec , duration 40 minutes bit rate 66,250 audio channels 2 , Kind is Quicktime Movie ,
You will get the best and fastest results if you use Handbrake, it can convert to mp4, m4v or mkv as you wish.
Hi jbjoret, I have tried Handbrake with poor results , not saying Handbrake is at fault as it is most likely my lack of knowledge that is the problem,
