iPod Classic Won't Mount in iTunes 10.4

I have a third generation iPod Classic (the one before the color screen appeared). It has worked fine with iTunes until I upgraded to version 10.4 (the current one). When I connect the Classic to my computer now, it mounts as a disc on the desktop, but the iPod does not show up in iTunes for syncing. Has 10.4 done away with supporting older iPods, or do I need to re-set something to have it show up in iTunes so I can make changes to the music on it?
