Unable to start typing in blank Pages template. The cursor will not appear. Anyone have this problem, and if so, do you know a fix?

After the Lion upgrade, I can no longer open a Pages 09 blank document and just start typing. I can't get a cursor to appear. Anyone else experience this?

Also, the new Autosave and versioning is a disaster. Please bring back "save as" or allow us to turn autosave off.

Hello Jerrold

There is a simple identifier.

When we work upon a Layout document, the 1st item of the Insert menu is "Pages"

When we work upon a WP document, the 1st item of the Insert menu is "Sections"

(1) which kind of document are you trying to work upon ?

If you are designing a Layout one, you must insert a text box before being allowed to enter text.

(2) Please, there are already several long threads dedicated to Autosave. We aren't Apple representatives but end users like you. Don't waste your time and ours writing upon this subject. Everything was already written in the numerous existing threads.

If you aren't satisfied, use the dedicated channel :

Go to "Provide Pages Feedback" in the "Pages" menu , describe what you wish.

Then, cross your fingers, and wait at least for iWork'11 or 12 ;-)

To be the AW6 successor, iWork MUST integrate a TRUE DB, not a list organizer !

Just make sure you have opened a blank Word Processing template and not a Layout template which has no default text area to type in. Read the subheads in the sidebar of the template chooser to determine what you have viewing in the thumbnails.

Blank Layout templates literally are a blank page with nothing on them, you have to create Textboxes in which to type.

no, seriously I was! I was under page layout! Not being sarky or anything! I am just overjoyed that I am able to type again. I was just about to download microsoft word and PAY for it untill I read your post and tried it. Honest! 🙂

I'm glad to hear that it was a false alarm. There has been so much whining about Lion behavior lately, the detector is triggering all the time.

I often use Page Layout mode, but only when I have studied the requirements of the document and determined that the Word Processing specific tools are unnecessary and would get in the way. There are a few of us around who don't agree with Peter's total dislike for the Layout Mode. I think we can all agree that you must know your needs and you must learn which tools are required and how to use them. And, of course you must be able to tell the tools apart. A screwdriver can substitute for a chisel if you don't care what the result looks like, but you can easily tell them apart. With Lion-compatible Pages, it's getting more difficult to even know which mode you are in.
