I need help with my mini DVI to HDMI Adaptor display with a Sony 1080i TV.

I have a Mid 2009, 13 inch MacBook, running Mac OS X Lion 10.7, and my graphics is NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB. I am trying to plug my MacBook into my Sony 1080i HDTV via a mini DVI to HDMI Adaptor. When I plug the cord into my MacBook and TV they both go blue, then my MacBook works fine, but the TV just displays the default galaxies wallpaper, but my mouse courser shows up on the TV.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7)

Normally, the external monitor is default to the right of the computer display. So if you drag your mouse to the to right "outside" your screen, it should appear on the TV. You can do the same with your Apps.. drag the window to the right of the screen and it should appear on the TV. To check the settings for this, go to your Displays in System Preferences. It will tell you which edge of your computer screen the TV or external monitor is located.

You have the display set in Extended Desktop mode. In System Preferences>Display there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the TV hooked up to the MacBook and both screens working. Do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen. When you disconnect from the TV your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.
