Disabled 2nd gen ipod touch :(

I was messing around on my brother's 2nd gen ipod touch and disabled it. I tried restoring it, and putting it into DFU mode. It just won't work. I cannot get to the screen that shows the itunes symbol that tells you to connect to itunes. All the ipod says is "ipod disabled- connect to itunes" which I do, but it doesn't recognize the ipod. The computer that the ipod was set up on does not work anymore. I tried calling apple, taking it to an apple service provider, and I also called the nearest apple store, but they said they do not work on ipod touches. The ipod is over warranty. Is there anything I can do to fix it? Or am I completely out of luck?? Please help!

If you make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store they will try to restore you iPod at no cost unless there is a hardware problem.

Try placing the iPod in recovery mode and then see it iTunes will see the iPod so you can restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod. That also bypasses the passcode when you are on a new computer. For recovery mode see:

iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore

See the following for getting iTunes to see the iPod:

iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X

Mac OS X v10.6 or later: iOS device not recognized in iTunes after restart
