Keyboard lag and other keyboard issues

This confirms my impression that the overwhelming majority of those who report problems are those who use outdated software incompatible with Lion.

I reached out to Smile Software regarding the keyboard lag issue and they confirmed there is an issue with TextExpander. They sent me beta version 3.4.1b2, which I've been using for about a week with no problem. If you're experiencing the same problem, I recommend you contact Smile Software support at textexpander [at] smilesoftware [dot] com and ask them to send you the link to 3.4.1b2.

The beta is working perfectly. Thank you for the idea.

I've also been running the mentioned TE beta for 10 days now and the effect isn't showing up so far. I think Smile fixed it for me, but let's give it another month.

The beta link no longer works, but TextExpander 3.4.1 was officially released on Feb. 28th.

I've had some success eliminating the keyboard lag by going to System Preferences > Universal Access > Keyboard and toggling the "Slow Keys" option on and off. I always have Slow Keys off, but toggling it seems to cause a reset of the setting.

My problem is solved by toggle the " Slow Key" too.

I came to this thread with a similar problem with typing lags. I quit a number of background processes I suspected could cause this issue as well as some mentioned here and in other threads related.

It turns out I spotted one called "kotoeri" which I didn't recognize. I googled that and it's a Japanese input method. It turns out I had enabled that at some point in the language & text pref pane (input sources). I occasionally need to write something short in japanese, so that made sense.

the moment i disabled that, keyboard lag was gone! so in this case there's no 3rd party software conflict issue, this is all Apple.

The strange thing is that the "kotoeri" process is still running (shown in activity monitor).

Kotoeri is a set of Japanese keylayouts belonging to the default, basic system keylayouts, so I doubt lag is due to activating Kotoeri, unless you had previously deleted the Japanese fonts, which may indeed lead to lag issues.

Or, to be clearer, activating Kotoeri cannot be the main cause of that behavior, it must be associated to something else, e.g. deleting fonts required for japanese.

I had a similar problem and tried everything software wise. Saw a post about a swollen battery. I removed the battery and walaaaah no lag.

This is what worked for me. More responsive keyboard across all M$ apps I'm forced to use.

This helped solve my problem, I had switched keyboards and changed every single setting in the keyboard system preferences, I had missed the slow keys toggle in accessibility. Thanks, this was driving me nuts!

Did you ever find out which program(s) caused the issue. I was able to solve this problem on my iMac by quiting Steam and toggling the Slow keys Universal Access option on and off.

So for now I toggled slow/fast setting in hopes this does it.

As for TextExpander - I did spotlight search - I have zero listing.
