drive suddenly unmounts

My WD 3TB MyBook Essentials drive has begun to suddenly unmount, giving me a warning about not ejecting disks properly. This after 6 months of flawless operation. And the 1TB Mybook that sits beside it has worked flawlessly for 18 months.

Restart, reboot, reformat, restore, nothing works. In fact, most of the time now, it disappears from the desktop within a couple of minutes of mounting (e.g. at startup, so there's no time for reformatting, etc.

I know I'm not the only one out there...

Somebody, please...

Paul, I do not have any help, but I was thinking about getting 3 GB external drive for my docking station. However, I'd heard rumors of 3 TB HDs not mounting.

I'm curious when you upgraded to 10.6.8 and when your HD unmounting problems began. Which version of 10.6.8 are you using: the non-supplemental or supplemental version? Did our MyBook HD stop working in correlation to 10.6.8 software upgrades? Was everything fine with 10.6.7?

Thanks.
