changing header background colour in templates in Pages 2

I don't seem to be able to change the header background colour in templates supplied with Pages 2 (e.g. black background in financial newsletter). The text can be changed but the black box stays fixed and can't be selected and deleted. What am I missing?

geepee,

Welcome to Apple Discussions. The first thing is to select View > Show Layout. Click in the gray margin area, then drag your pointer to the edge of the black box. That should highlight it. Open the graphic inspector, and click on the color box. That should open a Colors window. Click on the color of your choice, and the box will change colors. Enjoy.

geepee,

I'm not exactly sure what's going wrong for you. If you click in the gray margin area, then drag the pointer to the box, the box should show 8 little blue handles on it -- three on each side and two in the center. Leaving it highlighted, open the Graphics Inspector.

Do you see a pull-down Fill menu near the top? It should be set on Color Fill, and there should be a square black box right below it. I'm not talking about the color box for Stroke. If you click on that black box once, it should open a Color window.

Bless You Dennis da man...printed your tips and filed for future reference. I use Photo Shop to change header's background and images. So far, I've had no problem with color selection in Pages.

With iLife on the way, I hope to simplify and reduce drills now using Kodak Easy Share (which I like) and Photo Shop (above my pay grade) for all Pages' image requirements including headers. I trust the iLife hype is truthful. Will find out.

Still watching B/N for release of your masterpiece. Ol' Jim.

I have the same issue as GeePee. The header does not act like a text box that you insert. I can’t “select” the header, only put the curser inside of it. Any change in colour only affects the text, not the background.

I have read somewhere that you have to create, copy and apply styles to change the header background colour. Surely there must be a more straightforward way.

Cheers,

Reb

Like Dennis, I get the blue master object handles on the black text box when I first open the financial template. The crosses you are seeing mean the object is locked which would explain why you can't make any changes. With the object selected go to the Arrange menu & choose Unlock. I don't know why it's locked for you, but it's easy to unlock it.
