I am trying to transfer my old MacBook stuff to my new MacBook Pro, but they both keep searching for computer through Migration Method. Yes they're on the same wireless network.

Connect them directly by firewire, if both have it.

Alternatively, use a wired network temporarily.

Wi-fi will take a long time.

Ideally use Setup Assistant on initial boot, rather than Migration Assistant after creating an account; the latter method will duplicate accounts and create permissions problems.

I am having a similar problem - trying to move files from old MacBook to new MacBook Pro - the MacBook Pro is finding the MacBook, but the MacBook just sits and spins looking for computers. I was able to connect thru the network (using an Airport) and accessed files on the MacBook using the MacBook Pro. Unfortunately I am not very computer savvy, so get lost without step by step instructions. The Firewire cable I used on the MacBook does not work on the MacBook Pro.

Sounds like you're trying to do it the wrong way round.

I refer you to my reply to the OP's original question. Use Setup assistant to transfer the files.

For firewire, if the older MB has FW400, you'll need an adapter cable - 6-pin FW400 to 9-pin FW800.

Ethernet should work though, if you can't get a FW cable immediately. It'll just be a bit slower.

Your MacBook has a FireWire 400 6 pin port. Your MacBook Pro has a FireWire 800 9 pin port. You can get a FireWire 800 to 400 cable and hook them up with that in Target Mode. Here's the Apple Support article on how to do it. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661

Here's some 800 to 400 cables on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_3_25?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field -keywords=800+to+400+firewire+cable&sprefix=800+to+400+firewire+cable
