Q: Apple Hardware Test (AHT) is GONE!! after Lion install

After installing Lion on my new early 2011 MBP the AHT is gone...

Pressing "D" will not load the AHT (it was installed and working fine in my MBP prior to Lion).

I called the APP hotline to inquire about it and the technician couldn't boot into the AHT on all the macs with Lion available to him.

(a report has been filed with the engineering team)

According to the newly updated KB: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509

QUOTE: "Some Macintosh computers that shipped with OS X Lion support the use of Apple Hardware Test over the Internet."

After pressing and holding the "D" key the Mac just loads into the desktop... There is no online AHT or pre-installed AHT available...

>> Is anybody else having this problem?? <<

If you are having the same problem maybe you should also report it to Apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback/ or the APP hotline...

Tried Jasric89's file. Didn't help me get the AHT back in my system. Now I cant get any program that uses graphics card to function. Adobe birdge, FCPx, dvd player, etc all give me a message saying "Graphics configuration not supported" or programs just flat out crash at launch. Not sure if this is why.

I've seen some other discussion threads on this but there's no answers. I also have the famous 'invisible' login screen. I'm guessing it's the new Lion update... so upsetting. Ready to toss this Imac out. Lemon!

    My os is 10.8.2

    Hi gonan111

This package has not been tested with Mountain Lion, Apple may of changed the ball game again here. I have yet to install Mountain Lion onto a machine of mine.

The issues with your mac on the other hand; I would be surprised if it was the package,  would cause that sort of issue. All the package does is move AHT_CPU file into the coreserves/Diagnostics folder. Then the package just does a normal cmd line disk check, and repairs any permissions.

Have you tried re running your installer for Mountain Lion? Looks to me as though the install that has taken place has missed out a few drivers. What I would do in this instance is either a reinstall (without wiping). Just install over the top, and your files will remain or go to http://support.apple.com/downloads/#10.8.2 and download the third one down the combo update package, do a manual install of the pacakge. FIrst do a backup of your system before attempting any of these steps incase it goes wrong .

Maybe do the secound one first as it would be the quickest and may just fix your install. If not then try the first step.

Let me know how it goes

    Thank You

jarsic89, thank you for the package.

    MBP 4.1  17" 2008

    Original OS - Lepard 10.5.2

    Actual OS - Lion 10.7.4

I install it and did a Permissions Repair, shut down, press D Key on Boot Up.

The AHT starts but freezes every time.

I just wanted to test it, i know the Package is for Snow Lepard.

So I am asking Apple to send me a copy of the original install DVD for Lepard.

    Thanks

This installer worked for me!!! Thanks!

I am on MacBook Pro 17" early 2011. it came originally with Mountain Lion, but I erased it and installed Snow Leopard. So I couldn't run AHT until now.

The pkg worked for me as well.

I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro currently running Lion 10.8.2, and the AHT from the package worked for me.

    Macbook Pro erarly 2008

    10.6.8

    2.6

    4gb 667mhz

So I am in the same boat, AHT not working.

I am ready to do the pacifist fix but my question is..

I have upgraded from tiger os to snow leopard and so the original disc that came with my macbook pro (bought it on ebay) is Tiger OS. What will happen if I pop Tiger OS in, will I lose Snow Leopard? The seller I bought the system from on ebay loaded SL on it so I would have no way of reinstalling should it wipe my hd.

Thanks for any help you can give

    Hi!

I'm running 10.6.8 on a 17" 2.3GHz i7 MBP with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB 7,200 RPM hard drive. I downloaded your package for installing AHT, but haven't yet run it since I saw that some users experienced problems after doing so. Please let me know if this package has been successfully tested on a machine similar to mine (and with the same OS).

    Thanks!

    Hi Jasric

I have a daft question. I just downloaded your installer and successfully installed it. What do I do now ? How do I run it?

I have restarted my macbook and pressed Option D and still get the "Apple hardware test does not support this device" error.

I also upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard....

    Many thanks indeed.

Make sure you shut down not restart. Unplug all internet and wifi and devices except the lion on the flash drive. I have that in the usb and its working. Didn't try it without so don't know.

Hold down D before pressing the start up button. Then you will get a gray screen let go of D button hardware test will come on screen to run.
