Can a 16 gb memory card from a 3g be used in a 3 gs
I bought an 8gb iPhone 3GS and want to take the 16 gb memory from my iPhone 3G and install in the 3GS. Can/will this work?

Hi. There are no memory cards in the iPhone. However, if you are referring to the SIM card, then yes it should work.

Doesn't the SIM card need to be activated by cell phone company for the phone to work- would they allow this transfer of SIM cards? AT&t provider
Yes, the SIM card can be moved from device to device.
Ideally, the user would contact their carrier to update the IMEI number of the device on there account but this is not always necessary.
If the SIM is not active, calling AT&T will not change anything.
Just be aware that the SIM card is not storage and only contains data about the wireless account. No data from the phone will be transferred to the new phone via the SIM.
So basically I can't make my 8GB iPhone 3GS into a 16 GB version using parts from my 16gb iPhone 3G ? Is the memory in these phones hardwired?
The only thing upgradable on an iPhone is the iOS.
If the user desires a larger capacity device, then they must purchase it.
Return the 8GB 3GS and get a 16GB iPhone 4 if you really want a 16GB capacity device. Or go back to the 3G that you already have.
I only "upgraded" because the home button completely stopped working on my 3G (and after some effort to repair it). Thanks for the help.
