OS X Lion can't find OSInstall.mpkg

I recently purchased OS X Lion off the App store and downloaded it. Much to my dismay, after running it, and Lion restarting my computer, the installation hung on 33 minutes for maybe 20 minutes. I opened the installation log to see what was going on, and it reported that "can't instantiate package: /system/installation/packages/OSinstall.mpkg. That was the last error on the list and i've been searching everywhere and I can't find the solution.

I have tried repairing my hard drive using disk utility and OSX boot disks (Leopard and Snow Leopard) and my hard drives seem to be fine.

For $30 and a OS not installing is unacceptable.

I hope to find a solution soon.

Sounds like the installer got corrupted in the downloading process. I would try redownloading and starting again.

I encountered the same problem. The installation was stuck at minute 34, and the log showed following message: "can't instantiate package: /system/installation/packages/OSinstall.mpkg".

Instead of re-downloading Mac OS X Lion, I waiting for the installer and after about 30-40 minutes it continued, and now OS X Lion is installed. However, on my MacBook Core 2 Duo with 2 GB RAM, it's really slow. Also some processes are using a lot of CPU. Some of the processing that are using a lot of CPU are "mdworder", "helpd" and others.

If let's say that these problems are being caused because the OS installer skipped a few files, then is there a way to repair the OS?

Hi Mustafa

If there are files missing then I would just redownload the installer. Then you can be sure that the system is complete. Otherwise you may have issues continuing and end up just downloading again anyway. It should download into the Applications folder. Before you install, make a copy or shift it to another place, which will retain a copy for future use, in case you want it again, otherwise the original may disappear after installation. You can run the installer from other location than the Applications folder.

If you have still got a copy of the oringinal installer on your computer delete if first, otherwise the App Store will think you have it and you will not be able to redownload it.

Hope you get it sorted.
