Iphone MAC address changed (seemingly impossible)...what does this mean?

Hello all,

I've been using my apple router/time machine for over a year now and have it set to only accept the MAC addresses of my devices. The other day I could not connect to my wireless network (which i have been doing flawlessly for over a year); I thought i may just have to re-enter the password but that was not the problem. The MAC address on my phone changed from its original address to a new one. As for what I thought, MAC addresses are supposed to be the physical address (they don't change). I know that they can be spoofed, but this is not the case for me: my phone is reporting a completely new MAC address.

What could this mean?

Please help, and thank you
