How do I completely remove an App?

Hi,

How do I completely remove an App (with saved data) from my iPad?

If I want to remove a game, because I want to start all over, I try to delete the App, and then re-install it again afterwards. But after I re-install the App, my Ipad still has my old data/progress saved??

Seems like the iPad still has some cache from the App saved after I delete it, or?

After deleting the app from your iPad, are you syncing your iPad with iTunes before reinstalling the app?

To add the app to your iTunes library, with your iPad connected at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPad. This will transfer all iTunes content on your iPad that was purchased/downloaded form the iTunes store that is not currently in your iTunes library. Select Sync Apps under the Apps tab for your iPad sync preferences with iTunes followed by selecting all the apps below that are currently installed on your iPad - except for the app you want deleted from the iPad along with all data followed by a sync.

Follow this by reselecting this app under the Apps tab for your iPad sync preferences with iTunes followed by a sync to reinstall the app on your iPad. This should not include the app's data currently available on your iPad.

Thanks Allan, I will try that! 🙂

But I have one question regarding synchronizing my iPad with iTunes on my computer: If I put a checkmark in the 'Synchronize applications', it wants to synchronize a lot of Apps from my iPhone to the iPad, and the Apps I have on my iPad are not structured the same way as they are on my iPad right now (in folders ect.).

Can I somehow synchronize the other way around, so that iTunes on my computer will get the data structure currently on my iPad? Or do I have to just synchronize from iTunes, and then put Apps into folders ect on my iPad afterwards?

You're welcome.

If I put a checkmark in the 'Synchronize applications', it wants to synchronize a lot of Apps from my iPhone to the iPad, and the Apps I have on my iPad are not structured the same way as they are on my iPad right now (in folders ect.).

You control this by not selecting the apps below that you don't want installed on your iPad. After selecting Sync Apps, select only the apps below that are currently installed on your iPad except for the app you want to delete. How the apps are currently arranged on your iPad should not change when doing so.

Well, I have now tried your suggestion, but it did not seem to help at all. 😢

Even though iTunes asks me, if I want to remove the App and all the data, it seems like it still keeps the data, because when I reinstall the App, my progress is still remembered by the App.

After unchecking the App in the Apps tab in iTunes, and synchronizing with my iPad, the App gets deleted. Then I have tried both installing the App from the iPad, and by checking it in the Apps tab.

P.S. It seems like the arrangement of my Apps in iTunes overwrites my setup on the iPad when I synchronize. Because after I synchronized the first time, all my Apps were no longer in folders ect.

I do not think the progress is stored online, because my iPad still remembers the progress, even though I play the game while offline and delete the App afterwards.

My only guess is, that even though the iPad ask you if you want to delete the files from this App, it actually does not delete them. I guess the only option I have, is to reset the entire iPad, and loose progress from every game installed. 😕
