Ipod touch (4th generation) volume bar not there

ok i bought a used ipod touch from my friend recently and it worked perfectly fine for about a week and now when i try to play music without headphones or an accsesoriey plugged in it. the volume bar on it disappears. is there anything i can do to fix it?

The best try would be first doing a Hard reset, holding down the center and top buttons together for about ten seconds to manually reset the device. If that doesn't work, try plugging it into your compute and updating the software.
