Video not working in Safari.

It is working fine in Firefox and I have already searched for answers everywhere. I've reloaded Flashplayer and still video will not play. ESPN keeps telling me I need to install flashplayer and MLB.TV will not load. (As you can tell, I found these problems while trying to catch up on the baseball games) MLB.com just gives me a black screen where the video should be playing.

I installed Lion yesterday and everything else seems to be working fine.

Open a new user account on the computer and see if it will also not load in that user. If it does load just fine than its an issue with the one of the system files in your user related to safari or flash that is causing the problem. You can start by pulling the com.apple.safari.plist from MacintoshHD/Users/"your username"/Library/Preferences. In Lion you get to your user library by holding Option when clicking on the Go menu in the Menu Bar when Finder is the active application (next to the Apple). You can also look at the Internet Plug Ins folder in the User library, as well as clearing the cache files out of the Caches folder if the issue only happens in your user. If it also does not load in a new user than the issue is system wide with the application itself and might need a proper uninstall re-install. Also test sites where flash is used like CNN.com videos to verify its the plugin.

sounds like you want to start targetting files in your user that are associated with safari and flash to get it working again....user specific troubleshooting goes like this; you pull the file of the User/Library folder to the desktop and then restart the machine or log out and log back in, then test the issue. If it's fixed you simply trash that file, if its not fixed you put it back. You can safely remove all caches in the cache folder and I would start with the com.apple.safari.plist first in your Username/Library. Hope it works out!

I have tried everything except downloading and installing 10.6.8 combo update. I delete everything in the cashes folder, deleted the safari plist, cleared safari caches, delete all browser ad-ins. I have verified that it works with a different user, just not with me. It does play videos on CNN, althought they are jerky. However, it won't play any of the CNET videos. CNET doesn't tell me I am missing something and when I sent them a message a while back, they said to make sure flash player was installed.

Any ideas?

Brad.

Okay so if you have a user specific issue that is not resolved by pulling the plist, caches, and plugins then try re-installing flash. If you've already done that then you need to start some higher level preference troubleshooting. Rename your user/library/preferences folder to have word old behind it, then drag it to the desktop. The. Restart and a new one will be created. If this resolves your issue you will want to put them back one by one from the old press folder until you find the culprit. If this still doesn't fix your issue then you will want to do a re-install of your system. Doesn't get rid of your data And takes about 30-40 mins.
