How can I tell if my Mini DisplayPort outputs sound?
I bought my MacBook Pro 5,5 in 2010 but I don't remember when exactly. I can't find anything about the Mini DisplayPort info in System Profiler.
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Hi Deborah,
Go to Apple Menu > About This Mac > More Info > Hardware > Audio (Built In) If it says "HDMI Output or HDMI/Display Port Output” your MBP is supposed to support audio out via an appropriate MDP to HDMI adapter.
Thank you. Looks like connecting to my tv just got more complicated.

You're welcome. Take a look at this adapter; I suspect it will do what you want (if you have an HDMI input on your TV):http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/CBLMDPHDMID/
If you have a mini display port on your mac than it does support audio out but you have to use an hdmi cable as mini display port to dvi and all other besides HDMI don't carry the audio signal through. Just make sure you are using HDMI and it will work out.

That is only true of MBPs produced since April 2010: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4241
