Thanks I didn't know what was the SMC, I restarted following this video tutorial How? and Why? to Reset The System Management Controller (SMC Reset) - YouTube and every was ok. Thanks thanks thanks...
I'm having the same issue... Just after the installation.. the click doesn't seem to work. Help?
Thanks!
MacBook Pro - OSX Lion
System preferences>trackpad>point&click check the box for click with one finger. You might have to press the track pad for clicking to check the box
Unfortunately it's not about Tap, it's about pushing the touchpad button
The trackpad is hinged at the top edge, so it is easier to click towards the bottom edge. If it is not responding then seems to be hardware issue. Best to take it to the store or authorized service provider.
I just lost the physical click ability too. Now I have Lion on the machine, but I'm not completely sure if it has died after the install or right before it... a few hours before the install it worked for sure, though.
sorry, the symptom was a coincidence. it's hardware error. if i press brutally hard around the middle, the click switch actually works, so it's not a lion issue in my case.
Hi it's not a coincidence I have the same issue, everything was fine until i upgraded to Lion, 10.7.1 update was when it started happening as sonn as I'd done the install it started click only intermittently, it's defo a software problem and not hardware one.
Same problem here after Lion install. Help please! The click actually works if you press it for a long period but if you click fast like I'm used to, nothing hapens.
Just an aside....
Trackpad options are two places:
System Preferences>Trackpad
and
System Preferences >Universal Access>Trackpad options
Many people have Drag 'n Drop problems because this is not selected in the latter.
I have tried different trackpad settings with no change. I can drag just fine by pushing the trackpad down. IT's the clicking that doesn't work. I might just have to downgrade.
The ability to physically click the trackpad is not related to OS installed. I still think if it is a physical click that is the problem, it is best that you take it to the store. As I have posted above, the trackpad is kind of hinged at the top edge. The nearer the top edge you are, the harder you have to push to click. If you click at the bottom edge, it requires much less effort and quick clicks are easy. I am sorry that your problem has not been solved, but again, if it is physical issue, it is hardware and you ought to let the technician take a look at it.
It clicks very easy at the bottom, true and pretty easy elsewhere as well. The trackpad clicks well. The problem is the system registering the click. It does not register the click any better if I click it at the bottom of the trackpad. If I push the trackpad down for let say 1/5 of a second, it clicks fine but if I push it for let say only a 1/10 second, nothing happens. This problem started instantly after the Lion update and I am pretty sure that Lion is the problem. I can report back if I downgrade later if the problem was resolved. The system registeres dragging with the trackpad down fine and that's one other reson to suspect that the problem is in Lion and not in the hardware.
Before going to the shop for a new computer, I would try an SMC reset, 'tho I don't know why installing Lion should have changed anything at that level.
Works perfect after SMC reset. Thank you so much for the solution putnik!
EDIT: Have to take that back. Still not registering every click.
