When I downloaded the 4.1 update I lost the "Save As..." option in my File menu.
It seems that the rare "stupid" gene has popped up at Apple. If there is a good reason why the Save As option in the File menu was eliminated, then I would be glad to learn just what it is. Every application on the planet has a Save As option. Hopefully, they will bring it back on an update.
I thought that everybody was able to understand why my sentence ended with a smiley.
If I remember well, in this thread, I explained the difference between update (which we got six) and upgrade we weren't delivered so, I just wished to recall to Peter that we weren't asked to pay for something since january 2009.
The removal of Save As… wasn't designed to fix something, it's the way designed to embed the new features delivered by Lion.
I would be surprised if Apple move back.
Given the way I use documents : never use Save As… to create a doc starting from an other one, the new scheme fit my needs.

The User Guide matches the actual state.
Of course, if you read the scheme applying to 10.6 when you are running 10.7, you will get some surprises but in such case, the culprit is not the User Guide.

No, you don't have to duplicate then save, entering a new name, as long as you are using Mountain Lion. It has been mentioned more than once in this thread alone. Hold down the Option/alt key while clicking the File menu & you will see Save As… & its keyboard shortcut, ⌘ ⌥ ⇧ S.
Be aware that autosave will save any changes to the original document if you haven't checked the option to ask to save changes in System Preferences > General.
I do not see my reply in this thread, so I will try to duplicate what I had previously submitted to you:
If you click on File>Save the next page will, at the top, have a place that gives you the Save As option. I suppose which method you use depends upon whether you just want to save the original document as is, or want to save a copy of it (Duplicate) and go on to make changes to the document.
I believe that in Lion, there is now a process called Versions. This works behind the scene, periodically and automatically saving another "version" of your document as you work on it. This saves you the trouble of having to continually save your document.
I guess that in fact, Save As… will disappear from every application.

As a designer I have observed that given enough time and opportunity designers will fiddle with a design till they have ultimately ruined it. That is why we have deadlines.
I do wish Apple would fix the long list of things that really need fixing instead of trying to come up with marketing "features" to justify charging for upgrades.

I'm happily finding more and more alternatives to Apple's offerings.
Swinsian for iTunes, Google Chrome for Safari, XBMC for Front Row, and working my way down the list.
Chrome is bloody marvelous, after having put up with Safari for years, I feel like the chains have been lifted off me!

I clicked on 'File' and then 'Duplicate'.
I worked on the document.
Then I clicked on the Red Spot to close the file and that's when the option to 'Save As' appeared as a drop down menu over the document itself.
I preferred the old 'Save As' arrangement.

I agree with evrybody here. If it isn't broken don't fix it. Apple seems to think it needs to change things just for the sake of it.
Everybody and their grandmother knows that all software has a "save as" menu.

I even think that it's bacause I'm able to speak them this way that I have good relations with them.

There is no need for this flag.
case 1 : you just create a new document. The window title doesn't embed the ".pages" name extension as long as you don't save the doc.
case 2 : you are working on a doc which was saved once. Autosave apply so you have nothing to do, your changes are automatically saved. Some users are even ranting because the autosave process may take precedence against what they are trying to achieve. If you close the document, the system automatically save it. It does that too when you quit the doc's window without closing it.
I wish to add that in this case, triggering Save… doen't change the contents of the saved file, it just store a new version in the hidden dedicated folder.
Honestly, I have some difficulties to describe that by the Mies Van Den Rohe's formula : "Less is more".
