Q: iChat after Lion--Messaging Agent keeps wanting password

So since I upgraded, on my MacBook and iMac, whenever I startup iChat it presents me with a password request, saying "Messaging Agent wants password".  It looks like Keychain is wanting access, but isn't giving me any options as far as "Always Remember"  or whatever, so it isn't remembering the password.  It asks me every time I quit and restart the app.  Granted it's not a huge problem, but it is annoying and I'm not finding anyone else to have this problem, so it may just be me.  I can't think of a way to fix this, can anyone else?  Thanks.

good news: found the following solution

 

Navigate to ‘/Users//Library/Preferences’ and delete all com.apple.iChat* files. You must then log out for the fix to work and re-setup iChat the next time you log in. I’m pleased to report this solution does work and I can now open and close iChat without having to reenter my passwords each time it starts up.

    I'm afraid not.  There may be some keychain item or preference that I'm missing, but anything related to messager (ichat related keychain items have been removed) is set up just fine and still the problem persists.

    HI,

     

    If this is Lion then go to the FInder > GO Menu and hold the ALT then select the library that appears.

    In the Library navigate to the Preferences folder.

     

    Find and highlight com.apple.ichat.Jabber.plist (if it is a google or JAbber Name)

    or com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist if it is an Apple or AIM name.

    The do a Get Info (Apple/CMD ( or ⌘) and i keys together)

    Do you Own the File (Your Name will appear at the Bottom)

    Do you have Read and Write Permissions

    Yep, again, I'm not saying I'm not missing something, but I've looked at all the relevant preferences I can find, including ones regarding ichat (which is no longers installed), imessage, and imagent.  All the permissions appear fine.

    It could be one of those odd quirks you get with a Beta that, unfortunately others cannot reproduce, that leave you cursing for a while.

    Afraid not, I think you're missing the beginning of this thread, I've had this problem ever since I installed Lion, on BOTH of my computers, and I was hoping Messages would fix it but of course, no. And I've lost faith in Apple addressing the bugs of Lion, they seem to have simply skipped on to Mountain Lion.

    I would agree that Mountian Lion does seem to be coming awfully quickly.

     

    I know part of this is due to the fact I did not have a computer to run Lion at first.

     

    I can't think of anything else to try at the moment.

    For me, the problem seemed to be due to my chinging my Login password. If you somehow managed to make your Login password different from your "Login Keychain Password" (yes they can be different) you may need to synchronize them. I went into keychain preferences and turned on "Synchronize login keychain password with account' and rebooted my machine. After restart a dialog box asked me to enter my 'old' password. I entered that and all was good in mac world again. So, I googled this and found the follwoing link that may be helpful.

    Ok I freaked out too, I was up late with too much coffee and not enough sleep. I messed up my admin password somehow and couldn't remember what I just typed in. Oh well, to make a  long story short I needed to Reset my admin. password with the system disc. After that my keychain was going crazy and one of the error messages was the exact one your speaking of. Message Agent wants to use login. After several attempts to totally geek out and try to fix the individual issuer I just deciced to reset the whole keychain. After that everything was all good again. Go to Keychain access in your Utilities foldder then Click<preference, In the General tab there is Reset my Default Keychain Click that and start all over. When you restart it will ask you for passwords for Facetime, I message and all that. But if they are your passwords you should be fine. Also check out http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1544. It will give you the same info but smarter. Hope it helps out!
