I recently got a new iMac and signed in with my Apple ID. I want to change the iMac account that is linked with my Apple ID which was the first one I created the first time I started up my iMac. How do I do that?

What are you calling an "iMac account"?
Are you referring to an iTunes account?
No I am talking about the local iMac account. The ones you can create under System Preferences. The contact information is now messed up and I want to change which local account is linked with the Apple ID
I'm using Lion, but the premise may be the same. I've already forgotten SL.
In System Preferences click on Accounts. In Lion it's Users & Groups. You can look in there for something to do with Apple ID and password.

Do you mean the user account located on your iMac?
The only way to change the iMac's registration info is to wipe the machine, reinstall the OS, and on first boot, register with a new one when that section pops up.

Can't I just delete the original account and make a another copy of that same account I've just deleted?
I don't want to re-register the iMac, I just want to change the local iMac account that is linked to the Apple ID.
AFAIK, your Apple ID is linked to your e-mail address and not any of your OS X accounts. See https://register.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/GlobaliReg.woa for registration details. Exactly what are you wanting to change and why?
I want to change my contact info on my local (iMac) account without changing the contact info on Apple ID, but I think I got it now.

Yes. Just create a new admin user account, log into it, and then delete the other one.
