iCal won't read times prior to 08:00

I like the feature that enables me to specify event times during the inital input.

For example: if I write "Meeting 0900 to 1500", iCal will create an event called 'meeting' starting at 09:00 and ending at 15:00.

However,

I'm a shift worker and my events can occur any time, day or night. If I enter the following... "Meeting 0500 to 1300" iCal creates an event from 17:00 to 01:00 of the following day. I have tested this extensively and it descriminates against times that are enterered prior to 08:00am!!! I have tried changing the 'working day' parameters from 'midnight' to 'midnight', but it makes absolutely no difference.

This strange behaviour is ridiculous, how can I change it???
