canon mp navigator ex and Lion not working

Hi all,

Since Mac OS X Lion, my Canon MP Navigator EX doesn't work anymore. I removed everything Canon (prefs, extensions, folders in App Support, etc.) and reinstalled everything... still the same error from MP Navigator EX. 249.0.0.0 Scanner in use.

I can scan via Preview or Image Capture, but that is one scan a t a time and you have to set the scanning options/area every time. With MP Navigator EX I can scan 50 or images in one batch, modify them and save them all at once into a folder (and MPNEX numbers them just fine!) or into a PDF. Much, much faster than with Apple's standard tools.

So, does someone here experience the same thing or uses other scanner software that also does batch scanning and works with an MP630?

Thanks!

Mac OS X (10.7)

According to the Canon Australia web site there is a new version of MP Navigator EX for your MP630 to support Lion. If you look at this link, MP Navigator EX v2.0.5 was released this month to add support for 10.7. It also mentions that if you are using the scan button on the MP630 you may need to install MP Opener EX 2.0.

So I suggest you remove the application again and install v2.0.5.

I already had the latest installed, but just to make sure, I did it again. Pity, but same error.

I installed Opener 3.0 and tried a scan via the MP630: same error appears on iMac.

Looks like some driver is giving the wrong answer or ... some Lion driver has the scanner for itself and Image Capture & Preview use this driver.

Investigating a bit more, like installing a 3rd party scanning tool, I found out that MP Navigator EX uses the TWAIN drivers in /library/image capture/twain data sources/ and the 3rd party scanning software does too. Both give the '249.0.0 scanner in use' error. Image Capture and Preview do not use this driver, but, I presume, a device driver in /library/image capture/devices/. I removed all TWAIN data sources and I am going to reinstall the scanner driver.

I had a similar problem after migrating my apps to a new Mac with Lion. There were 4 downloads on the Canon support page for the MG6150 all-in-one device and I downloaded the latest versions of them all but still MP Navigator EX wouldn't work. Turned out the driver download didn't include the scanner driver, just the printer driver and I managed to find and install the scanner driver and then it all started working!

I have a Canon MP970 printer. After the installation of OS X Lion, the scan preview function of MP Navigator EX no longer worked. After reading the posts here, I downloaded and installed the newest software for MP Navigator EX applicable to my printer, but the preview function still did not work.

There is also a scanner driver (ScanGear) provided by Canon that is related to the printer. Downloading and installing that new driver resolved the problem. The scan preview worked immediately as it had in the past.

Canon Australia has version 2.06of MP Navigator and version 14.11.4a of the scanner driver. You need this scanner driver installed to use MP Navigator.

Note that Image Capture uses a different scanner driver (the ICA driver) compared to MP Navigator, which uses the TWAIN scanner driver. So when you open Image Capture to scan, is the MP630 shown? If so, when you select it, do you get an overview of the document on the scanner glass or some error message?
