My Macbook Pro has Intel Core duo - 1 GB. I want to install Lion so I bought a "Crucial" 1GB pin. I know where to install it but should I do anything before and after the installation.?

2GB would help running what you have, I would not upgrade to Lion, which while the minimum may be 2GB, real world? more like 4GB.
If you are on 10.4.7, then you need SL 10.6, which was also a memory hog and would run slower, while 10.4.7 was almost the minimum OS for MBP model. 10.4.11? skipped 10.5?
So order 10.6 or wait for the 10.6 + 10.7 UsB installer to be offered late this month

Thank you. I did upgrade to 10.6.8 when it came out. I'll wait with Lion. You did explain why my laptop is so slow - the !GB should improve it. Do I I just slip the pin in?
Yes, just slip the 'pin' in, but 2G is still too low for satisfactory operation with Lion, better to return the 'pin' (it's generally referred to as a 'chip') and buy 2 x 2G pins, or chips.

about the only other thing that helps is also $$ an SSD disk drive, also well supported there.

Your MBP if it is an intel core duo will not run Lion. Only core 2 duo will run Lion
