My Samsung ML-1430 will not work with Lion.

I downloaded the driver which supposedly corrects the problem. It worked fine with Snow Leopard but will not work with Lion. HELP!

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7)

Is that driver PPC or Intel? Just did some looking around and everything *I* could find was PPC.

As a last resort, you could try this:

http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosxsamsung -gdi

I have *no idea* whether this technique will work on Lion or not. I see no reason why it *shouldn't*, but your mileage may vary.

this printer (i have one) absolutely will not work with Lion since Samsung's latest update was for PPC OS X. it would work under Leopard / Snow Leopard because they included the ability to run PPC applications on an Intel-based Mac. however, Lion has removed PPC compatibility. i am sad about it as well, and after having had this printer for 10 years, i wish it were not so, but it is.

samsung no longer supports this printer, does not provide new updates for the drivers and the old drivers will not work. it is time to get a new printer. no way around it.

yes, i knew that. like i said it did not work for me back on SL. maybe it had something to do with SL was an upgrade from Leopard, where as i chose to install lion fresh, not upgrade it.

however, that said. it did work this time.

here are the steps i followed:

1. download and install foomatic-rip

http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/macosx/foomatic-rip-4.0.6.230.d mg

2. download and install ghostscript gpl

http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/macosx/gplgs-8.71.dmg

3. download and install samsung gdi drivers

http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/macosx/samsung-gdi-1.816.2.dmg

4. open system preferences -> print & scan

5. click the "+" button and select the samsung ml-1430

6. it found and installed the printer and appears to be working (i only printed 1 page).
