My Samsung ML-1430 will not work with Lion.
I downloaded the driver which supposedly corrects the problem. It worked fine with Snow Leopard but will not work with Lion. HELP!

If you upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion then you may just need to remove the printer from Print & Fax and add it again.
If that doesn't help then can you give more some detail about the issue you are currently having with the printer.

Is that driver PPC or Intel? Just did some looking around and everything *I* could find was PPC.
As a last resort, you could try this:
http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosxsamsung -gdi
I have *no idea* whether this technique will work on Lion or not. I see no reason why it *shouldn't*, but your mileage may vary.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669 doesn't show support for that model.
Thanks. I tried that but the message said when I tried to add it back that the ML-1430 driver was not available from Apple. However, I tried that technique with my HP Photosmart C4400 and it corrected the problem there. Thanks. I guess I'll have to harass Samsung for an updated driver.
this printer (i have one) absolutely will not work with Lion since Samsung's latest update was for PPC OS X. it would work under Leopard / Snow Leopard because they included the ability to run PPC applications on an Intel-based Mac. however, Lion has removed PPC compatibility. i am sad about it as well, and after having had this printer for 10 years, i wish it were not so, but it is.
samsung no longer supports this printer, does not provide new updates for the drivers and the old drivers will not work. it is time to get a new printer. no way around it.

Did you try the GDI solution?
i will admit i have not, though i hold little hope. i tried foomatic under snow leopard and was unsuccessful. however i eventually got the printer to work on SL with the old samsung drivers. i will try foomatic's drivers again and let you know. hopefully, it will work.
You have to install all three packages, not just Foomatic.
yes, i knew that. like i said it did not work for me back on SL. maybe it had something to do with SL was an upgrade from Leopard, where as i chose to install lion fresh, not upgrade it.
however, that said. it did work this time.
here are the steps i followed:
1. download and install foomatic-rip
http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/macosx/foomatic-rip-4.0.6.230.d mg
2. download and install ghostscript gpl
http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/macosx/gplgs-8.71.dmg
3. download and install samsung gdi drivers
http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/macosx/samsung-gdi-1.816.2.dmg
4. open system preferences -> print & scan
5. click the "+" button and select the samsung ml-1430
6. it found and installed the printer and appears to be working (i only printed 1 page).
hope that helps anyone else...
Tony,
The Foomatic, Ghostscript, Samsung GDI driver process worked! I printed out 2 documents for the Samsung 1430. Thanks for the tip.
This worked perfectly and saved me from having to buy another printer. Thanks!
Thank you Tony!!!
My ML-1430 worked as per your instructions! You will go to iHeaven.
Just wanted to report that I tried this with two computers that I've upgraded to Mountain Lion and it worked fine. Thanks!
HI Tony
I know is is an old post, but I have just purchased a new macbook pro with Lion. I have followed all of the above steps, and was able to add my ML1430 to my printer list and have been able to send documents to print, but nothing prints. Ever heard of this happening?

Just tried Tony's suggestion and it worked perfectly. Thanks Tony, you're a great help, especially when trying to print boarding passes for a flight at the last minute!
