Cost of iMac Repairs?

I'm not sure if any other user would have an idea - is there a way you could call one of your AASP - should be an easy estimate via phone: glass and metal frame.

Dismantling an iMac is not for the faint of heart; you can google for it and wind up with several videos - I understood that it was the glass and front frame? Or is it the rear? That would be far more difficult. ( had an AASP here replacing a logic board and it was not pretty (and he knew what he was doing).....

You can also check iFixit - not sure they have video instructions, but they do have parts I think.

I have to admit - I don't know. I thought front and rear were two separate pieces. My experience with the logic board replacement was with a white iMac and he took the front screen/housing off which left all the parts inside the back housing.

Did you get your iMac fixed and if so how much did it cost?

Are you talking about the logic board I mentioned? That would have been my last iMac and, the repair was done at my house (compliments of Applecare) free of charge, but I've heard that logic board replacements are usually $700 - 900.

Now, my current iMac's Superdrive just stopped functioning and there is an AASP coming to my house on Thursday to replace it - also compliments of Applecare (free of charge).

I was asking Robert how much it cost him to get his iMac repaired. I dropped mine over the weekend and dented the top right corner of the alumium case and cracked the screen.

If the aluminum enclosure is dented then you have to gut the whole machine to replace that.

You're best off taking it to an Apple store or an authorized repairer to get it fixed as you are likely to cause internal damage to the Mac which may end up costing you much more in the long run.
