We have had some problems at work with people being unable to turn bluetooth on/of, what has worked every time up til' now has been deleting (or just to be on the safe side, move the file out of the way and delete once you have a working BT again) the bluetooth plist file:

/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist

Do a re-boot and then you should be able to turn it on again!

click here to see a screen shot of what i am talking about.

its paired but not connected

I have tried to add it again, but my computer says my bluetooth is not on

I can not click the turn on button, every time I try to "check" it, the check mark disappears.

then I tried to delete the device and wanted to try to add it again from scrath, but nothing happens when I click on the - button next to the add + button.

then I tried to update my software but my computer says it can not download becase my software is already up to date.

any links to driver I can try to download that will fix the problem or any other suggestions?

I had the same problem and it was usually temporary (i.e. a re-boot would solve it).

Today I got tired and decided to find a fix without rebooting, it was on another thread.

1) Open activity monitor (Spotlight it to find it)

2) Select the option "All processes" from the drop down menu on the top right and then write "blue" on the search box.

3) The process "blued" should come up. Hit "Force Quit" and then enter your password. You should see the bluetooth icon turn to black and work fine now.

That's all, worked for me. 🙂

I was not able to turn Bluetooth on. System Profiler said there was no Bluetooth hardware available (although my MacBook Pro model 5,2 is supposed to have built-in Bluetooth). I bought a Kinivo BTD-300 Bluetooth 3.0 USB adapter. System Profiler recognized that there was a Bluetooth hardware (built by Broadcom) installed, but was uanable to discover and connect with a Magic Mouse.

Following the suggestion of Gusgrave, i deleted the /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist file.

After rebooting, the built-in Bluetooth is still not found, but the Kinivo BTD-300 Bluetooth 3.0 USB adapter is working normally, and I was able to discover and connect to the Magic Mouse.

Thank you, Gusgrave!
