Why is ~/Library now a hidden folder in Lion?

I downloaded a small app called DesktopUtility, that will do the job. It is hidden because some tech iliterates have accidentally deleted some folders and import files, without knowing. It is simply because most people never even used that folder, and it could be fatal if it was deleted.

1) to prevent users inadvertently deleting files inside ~/Library

- there are a number of users who has deleted files inside(not knowingly those are important)to save up space

2) there are a various of ways

a) follow what barnyey said. its thru terminal

b) or the easy way. Go to the folder first by pressing option and clicking Go in finder

once inside, switch to column view. Drag the ~/Library in the sidebar "favorites"

I find it sad that things have to be done to protect the dumb from doing things

Why cant peole learn how to do/use things anymore

Many things I would like to do in life, but dont expect them be be done for me because I am to lazy to learn

While many people are saying this, is there proof of that reason? Not that it really matters but I wonder if it's just a bug. If not, why just that Library, as there is another. And what about System? Seems whacky.

Genius

Service providers

etc

While there maybe "more" reason why it was removed. This is by far the most tangible reason.

2) because you cannot delete the system folder and files in it. This is the difference between the /Library and ~/Library. Anything inside ~/Library CAN be modified

3) look at the built in apps. Try deleting them 🙂 as you noticed yo can't. Which goes back to what I said above, This is to prevent users accidentally moving files to trash

How come my ~/user/Library file was NOT hidden after the upgrade to Lion?

Any ideas?

Thanks for the post about the video, but while everyone has a hidden Library folder... mine never was hidden. I wonder if maybe I have a corrupted install of Lion?

How do you re-install? Re-run the installer which I saved to DVD?
