This is something 'we' learned the hard way and pass-along to others, but it really really needs to be in the darn guide and Boot Camp Assistant, the PDFs, as a simple one sentence FYI.

Not that everyone reads guides and pdfs of course!

But given the number of schools that sell electronic downloads, MSDN, there is a real need to help. And not every student is going to look here.

Why Apple and Disk Utility, when this is not a problem that I know of with PCs - maybe even a Mac running a Windows VM or already in native Windows (aka "boot camp") is weird. Or, what really is Disk Utility not doing and doing wrong? and how does it affect other discs that people burn???

Well first, Disk Utility burns have to be reduced 2x burn speed almost always to work.

As for drivers, those normally don't get used until after the OS is installed and updated, not before, unless you need help with external UsB-DVD.
