After a trouble free installation of Lion I've noticed that my Windows computers can't "see" the iMac now running on Lion on the wireless network, however the Windows computer can "see" the MCP which is still running on Snow Leopard. The strange thing is that the iMac (Lion) can connect to the Windows computers and bring files over. đ
Any ideas as to the reason/solution to this one way traffic wold be gratefully received.

Try these steps
1. Create a new location on Lion > replicate the issue again
2. Go to sharing preferences > File sharing > options > untick SMB here, Restart. Do the same thing but make sure to tick both SMB inside options and File sharing inside sharing preferences

sure. Its creating a new internet setup or something to that effect
system prefs > network > click on automatic > edit locations > + > name it whatever u wish > done > apply now

creating a new location should not mess up that connection. you are just creating a new connection basically
I tried that suggestion but sadly it doin't work. It seems then that Lion prefers to remain invisible!!!
Are you sharing any folders on these Macs?
Yes, the Macintosh HD and the Downloads and Pictures folders all have the 'Shared Folder' option ticked in Get Info.
The PCs saw the iMac when the iMac was running under SN but not under Lion.
When in doubt ..... Restart the computers (if you have not yet done so) ... all of them.
Tried all that too.
Hopefully any future update to Lion will hopefully reveal Lion to the PCs.

Have you tried troubleshooting from the Windows side? It may be seeing Lion as an entirely new device, in which case you may need to establish a "new" connection to your "new" Lion device.

Yes that was the first thing I tried after finding out that the PC wasn't now seeing the iMac post Lion upgrade. Again it seems like unlike the Snow Leopard the Lion is far better at hiding itself. đ
Im not getting this issue as well as when i do this in the office. there could be something in your setup thats just obsctructing this. im sure the engineers have tested this on a default configuration between Mac and PCs.
Under file sharing in sharing preference > Options > Share files using SMB > there should be an account below, are those ticked?if not tick it. If so, untick it then tick it again
then try again
Again sadly nothing doing. However the PC is seeing the MBP which is running on SN.
do you have a backup?if so back it up first and do this
go to /Library/Prefences/System Configuration
remove these files
com.apple.smb.server.plist
com.apple.smb.server.plist.lockfile
NetworkInterfaces.plist
com.apple.network.identification.plist
preferences.plist
restart the computer then create a new location > enablie file sharing and tick SMB > make sure to check the user underneath it
