In a few months I will be purchasing a 13 inch MacBook Pro and I know that the battery will have to be replaced after five years. I would like to know how much it would cost to have the battery replaced at an Apple Store. This way I know if its more cost-effective to just get the battery replaced or to just buy a new MacBook Pro five years later.

Hi there, here's how my replacement of an external battery worked on a MacBook Pro, 15". My Pro was less than a year old. Apple exchanged the battery. I was charged $79 for a new one until the old arrived in the Apple repair center; then, the $79 was refunded. Hope that gives you an idea of the cost.
Thanks for your feedback. So, the replacement is free while under warranty or AppleCare Protection Plan. Although Sonicray's answer is what I was looking for because I am expecting to need to replace the battery after five years,which is when the battery usually needs to be replaced. The replacement is free only if Apple determines that your original battery is defective. Free replacement of a battery that is more than one year old is extremely unlikely, even if you have AppleCare.
A battery that is optimally (ideally) used and maintained is likely to last for five years, though there is no guarantee that any battery will do so, regardless of how you use or maintain it. If you budget an annual battery cost of about $35-40 per year and treat your battery well, you are very likely to be on the safe side.
Replacing a MBP merely because it needs a new battery would be ridiculous, even after five years. That would be equivalent to replacing your car just because it's due for its 60,000-mile major service.
I already knew that the repair would only be free if the battery was defective. Although I appreciate the rest of your message. I especially appreciate your estimate of how much money I should put aside each year for the battery replacement. And I don't think I would replace it after five years because at that time I would be in college(I'm in high school now).
