My MacBook Air Quicktime can't play a video file .mov
Any help?
Any help?
Download Perian.
Download Perian.
Thanks kayals.
I installed Perian but still doesn't work.
What codec is it looking for? If Perian doesn't allow it to run it's got to be something pretty funky, Perian is fantastic. The next step would be to download VLC, there's not much out there that it can't handle.
Thanks, Jason.
With VLC, I can see the video, but I can't hear the audio.
I've just got this video recorded from a film studio and, apparently, there are 2 audio tracks.
It's pretty funky, indeed.
I'd say have them rebundle the file and resend it to you. If Quicktime with Perian and VLC can't handle the file then they either bundled it incorrectly or they're using some obscure codec and they'll need to provide you.
Maybe you can learn a bit more about this mysterious movie. In quicktime (and probably VLC too) there is an Inspector (in Quicktime it's invoked by Window->Inspector or Command-I. It may provide more information about the nature of the video even if it's not playing normally.
If you can post a screen shot of an Inspector window maybe we can be more helpful.

Any luck on this ... no complicated codec just a movie sent from an iphone 4s ... its a .mov .... any reason in the universe why a new macbook air would not play such a file ?
i'm having the same problem. I have a .mov file on my iphone4s that plays fine, I saved it on my Mac Book Pro using Itunes and now i get an error " The movie.......can't be opened". You may need to install additonal software open this type of file"....???
This is a .mov file, why do i need to install additional software...?
