All desktop files snap to upper left corner off screen. How do I fix this?

Question

All desktop files snap to upper left corner off screen. How do I fix this?

Everytime I drag anything onto the desktop it automatically moves or snaps to the upper left corner of my screen out of sight. It took me a long time to figure out where these folders and files were disapearing to until I saw one last letter of the file name peeking out from the corner, just below the apple icon.

No matter what I do, anything I try to put on my desktop end up there.

Is there a setting or somthing to change this?

It seems lion has alot of bugs. My computer is slower ever since I installed it. Lots of spinning beach balls now.

When you are in the finder click on the view menu item and select clean up by, and then you can click on the sort by if you want the icons sorted a certain way.

Thank you but that only helps me find them it doesnt really fix it.

How do I get it to stop moving all of my items there. If I move a folder to the middle of my desk top it should stay in that location. Not move itself up to the corner off screen.

Step one. Create a new admin user account, log into it, and see if the problem persists.

Go to the same view menu and click sort by and select none.

I also have this problem. Nearly every time I open a file it's tucked away somewhere off of the desktop and I can't access it. I can see it in mission control, but can't ever use the f'ing thing. Must be something simple that I'm overlooking but it's so frustrating I'm likely going back to 10.6. Appreciate any help!

None of this has helped. I hate the new update with a passion!

I get the spinning beach ball all the time now too. My folders still snap up to the top left corner just off the screen every time I drag somthing onto the desktop.

No help here. Maybe I need to go to the genius bar.

snap to grid isnt even in my menu, at least not in the same one you are showing in this screen shot.

you are using a different version. i didnt have this issue until I upgraded to 10.7.1

no one can help here??? pretty sad apple doesnt fix this or even respod.

So, what occurred when you created the new admin user account?

pretty sad apple doesnt fix this or even respod.

If you want to report this issue to Apple's engineering, send a bug report or an enhancement request via its Bug Reporter system. To do this, register as an Apple Developer—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report or enhancement request. You'll get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering.
