How Do I Connect ipod to Home Stereo?

I am trying to hook my ipod nano to my home stereo receiver, but I'm not getting any sound.

I'm using the same cable (with the red & white plugs at one end, and one plug at the end that goes into the ipod) I've used to connect a CD player. I'm plugging the single end into the headphone jack of the ipod, and the red/white end into CD Audio-input on my receiver, then I'm setting the receiver to the CD setting...and no sound. The ipod works when I use the headphones. I was told I could connect the ipod directly to my stereo, am I connecting it wrong?

i have the correct cable to connect receiver and iPod. but i hear nothing from my stereo speakers. does it matter where i plug it to on my receiver? the AUX CD or DVD outlets or 1.5 CH outlet?

It sounds as if you're connecting it right. You may need to turn up the volume more than you think but VERY SLOWLY.

One thing to check for: when you plug a jack into or out of an ipod, the ipod pauses. Check that the Nano isn't paused.

Okay, sorry to respond to this, but for some reason I can't figure out how to post one myself.

Question: I have my Nano hooked up to the stereo, but I can hardly get any sound, can't hardly hear it at all. This same problem happened when I bought the cassette adapter for my car, and I thought it was just the product, but I'm thinking maybe the Nano is not strong enough to power these avenues. Does anyone have any ideas?

NEVER, never, never plug an output (your iPod out) into another output (AUX CD/DVD out or 5.1 CH outlet).
This has a nasty tendency to cause things to blow up or melt.

If you look, those are INPUTS and they are labeled that way.
You should use the AUX AUDIO IN.
Then on the front panel, select AUX to listen to the iPod.
Note that you may need to turn the iPod volume up to hear it.

You need a specific kind of cable that yyou can get from Apple or a reseller. (depends also on your ipod build). You can use the cable - has an end that goes into the dock connector and another for the stereo, or you can use a wireless device - available from a number of companies. From what I have read and seen a regular... "non-ipod-specific" cable may not work and could damage your ipod. Good luck.

I have connected my Nano to audio input but to get sound there seems to be a battle as to which volume to use. I have read in this forum to use the IPOD volume but where should the receiver volume be? Does it matter what the receiver sound field is set at, 5.1, stereo ect? My last question is that I have the audio in under Phono and someone told me I cant use that input, does it matter which audio input jack you use?

make sure you are plugging it into the right things on the stereo. You have to put it into the input not the output, make sure the volume is turned up on the ipod and stereo. This is a ipod nano?
