If your iPod was password protected, it is unlikely that a casual thief could get to your data. In order to get past the password he/she would have to restore the iPod to factory settings, which would remove all the data from your iPod (or sync to his/her iTunes backup which would replace your data with his). Note that the NSA/CIA/FBI or a professional cyberthief could probably access the data, but I doubt that you are dealing with them.

If she set up the Find My iPod service before the iPod was lost, log into MobileMe using the account ID and password used to set up the service.

If you're lucky, you'll be able to get at least an approximate location. How accurate the location reported will be will depend on how accurate Apple's database reflects the wireless access point the iPod is connected to, and how close the iPod is to that access point.

Good luck, and regards.
