Double click not working

I have had a fairly successful upgrade to Lion on my MBP i5 which is just over a year old. Got over the Facetime login problems and rebuilt my massive iTunes library.

The only issue I now have is the double click using the mouse or trackpad doesn't work correctly. For example drilling down through folders in Finder, double clicking may or maynot open the folder, and seems to get worse as I progress further into the folder tree.

If I connect my blue tooth magic mouse the problem still exists. Looking at the mouse settings, there is no longer a double click speed setting, I have found a clue. Opening the 'Set Up Bluetooth Mouse...' dialog the Done button flashes blue (got focus) erratically when the window has focus.

This to me is a software bug: I would suggest the OS is creating too many mouse events for it to handle correctly when a double click event happens.

Has anyone else had this problem?

The only discussions I have found online so far have been with the Wacom tablet driver having a similar 'no double click', so I uninstalled my Wacom drivers, rebooted, problem still exists.

Thanks Bob, I couldn't work out why I couldn't open an email with a double click, or a file using Finder, even though I've trolled through the blogs. Using Word was frustrating too as I couldn't use double clicking to select words, paragraphs etc. I tried changing the settings under 'Mouse' but never thought of using the Accessibility icon. Now everything works - all by reducing the speed!
