ATi Display Driver is already installed and up to date?

I've recently nabbed a MBP 15", with the ATi Radeon 6750M inside it. Love the machine, runs great.

However, when firing up Windows 7 64-bit under BootCamp (4.0), I'm not sure the ATi driver is the latest one available.

The drivers from AMD's site (http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx#2) say that the version installed (8.812.0.0000) is the latest and it won't be updated. However, the Internet seems to think a more recent driver version is in fact the latest...

The Catalyst Control Centre is shown as being updated 27 July, which seems to confirm stuff "on the 'net" - e.g., http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/1810-latest-amd-catalyst-video-driver-w indows-7-a.html shows that the latest driver released is 8.872 (inside the 11.7 Catalyst suite I've downloaded). It's just that this driver doesn't seem to actually be in the package - or at least, it's not being offered by the installer as available.

I'm a bit new to the way AMD/ATi do things, being a mostly nVidia kind of guy until now. Is it just that the latest driver is 8.872 but not for Mobility cards, which have an older driver? How can you tell from AMD's site what the latest driver is/should be and whether you should download the latest driver pack?

Help? I'm very confused, there doesn't seem to be clear instructions anywhere. Indeed, some things are confusing. Check the release notes of the driver: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/AMDCatalyst117ReleaseNotes.aspx. This shows (dig down a bit) that there's no 6700 series support in the package, and they say:

The following notebooks are not compatible with this release:

Switchable Graphics enabled notebooks using Intel® chipsets

So I guess the question is, where in fact can I get the latest driver for the card, if not from AMD? Note that this is the driver that comes up when going to the AMD driver page and selecting either the quick link for Mobility 7/64 drivers (http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx) or manually cruising through their product choices to find a "Radeon HD 6xxxM Series" driver.

Are we in fact screwed and there is no reference driver for the card? That'd be pretty annoying 🙂
