I have 10.5.8 and my audio isn't working, help?

I've tried everything from system updates to checking to see if my audio was on mute, and still nothing is working. At this point I feel like I need to probably download a new audio driver, but I have no idea how to go about looking for one and knowing if it's the right one. Any help would be appreciated!
