Updating Graphics drivers ( ATI Radeon HD 4850)
Is there some commercial software that will find and update drivers on my Mac? Somehow an App called DriverSmith found its way onto my Mac while I was trying to find driver updates for my ATI Radeon HD 4850. I am not sure whether this software will/should work on a Mac? Things get a little confusing when you throw in Boot Camp and real/virtual/emulators for Windows. I have an app from CodeWeavers, CrossOver Games ( a commerical version of "Wine") that is suppose to run Windows games under the Mac OS.
I get error messages concerning the driver for my video card when I try to load some games either Mac versions or trying to load them through CrossOver Games. One of the guys at codeweavers (make CrossOver Games) states that he is succesful with a 27" iMac & the same game I am trying to load.
I find lots of evidence in these forums that there are problems with the drivers on some video cards on Macs when they try to work with Windows games and even Mac versions of games. There also appear to be similar problems running Boot Camp and apps that run or emulate Windows. I find where some end users in years past remedied these situations, apparently by manually finding and updating ATI drivers designed for Windows. I do not understand the instructions I am seeing from users who have made this work.
I also find ..... About Apple Magic Trackpad and 27" LED Cinema Display Update for Windows......http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4273
This offers an 1) update for 32-bit Windows and a seperte one for 64-bit Windows. 2)"The files are contained in a .zip file. Double-click BootCamp_3.2_32-bit.exe for 32-bit Windows systems or BootCamp_3.2_64-bit.exe for 64-bit Windows systems"....
I'm not sure why I get the suggestion to update my drivers and do not know what if any of the above I should attempt.
