Macbook pro to hp monitor with hdmi issues

I am trying to hook my 2011 macbook pro up to my widescreen hp monitor with a mini dp to hdmi adapter. I have used the same screen an hdmi adapter adapter on my imac for years and has worked beautifully, but with the macbook pro the screen is noticably blurry. I do not know what is the issue. My only guess might be the cheap adapter I purchased on amazon. Also why can't I put the dock on the monitor even if I changed the menu bar to appear on the hp? Help please

About the blur all I can think of is that maybe the MBP is outputting 720p and your monitor wants 1080p. I know that the MBP will switch between 720 and 1080 depending on what it detects (under theory) Have you tried any other adapters? (MDP > HDMI)

According to Apple you have to use an adapter which: "conform to the VESA v1.1a DisplayPort Interoperability Guidelines" (for the new macs)

I have a problem of trying to get the "Arrangement" tab to appear so that I can turn on the monitor mirroring: there is no option for arrangements in my displays preferences. Can anyone tell me how to reveal arrangement in displays? it just says that I do not have more than one display and therefore arrangement is hidden?

I get this same error message even with the HDMi convertor Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter plugged in. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!

I've tested my HP 2159m with a MacBook Pro with OS X Lion. I have a cheapo Displayport to HDMI converter. What I found is that if I connect with an HDMI cable the HP monitor and OS X cannot achieve the monitor native resolution of 1920x1080. It doesn't even have the option of 1920x1080. But if I use an HDMI to to DVI cable OS X auto detects the resolution and magically switches to 1920x1080 and everything works well. Now if only I could get rid of the buzzing noise... I know its the laptop b/c with other HP laptops the buzzing noise doesn't occur...
