converting 8 bit to 16 bit audio

Does anyone know how to convert 8 bit samples to 16 bit format for use with logic express, I want to use some of my 8 bit samples, but logic will only accept 16 bit format, please advise thanks

G4 Powerbook Mac OS X (10.4.4)

The file can be opened in QuickTime, then exported using Sound to AIFF (you made need QT Pro, I have Pro so I am not sure whether these export options are also available in the free version). There are four bit rate options 8, 16, 24 and 32, default is 16.
