Export Using QT Conversion default

It appears that every time I choose "Export> Using QuickTime Conversion..." the settings are H.264 and 24fps. Is this just because Apple thought it is a good place to start?

What is strange to me is that for a DV sequence, the default resolution for export using QT is 640x480 (Current)... which isn't the "current" right?

And for a AIC 720p sequence, export default is 640x360 (Current)... which isn't the "current" and is smaller than the DV export.

Am I missing something?

Also, what is the different between "1280 x 720 HD" and "HD 1280 x 720 16:9"?

Are you trying to accomplish something, or is this just an academic question?

Why are you exporting to QT Conversion? What is the destination of your video? DVD? Web? YouTube? etc.

The documentation of these settings is in the FCP7 User Manual.

If I remember correctly, the different selections specify the QT Clean Aperture mode for the QT file you export via QT Conversion. I believe that in normal circumstances you select the setting below the dividing line that corresponds to your video.

Thanks for the link! So by "current", it means the size of the video as it is in the Canvas (or Viewer). Interesting!

However, I don't see where it specifies between the two different 1280 x 720 options, but I'll go with your guess that I should select the one below the dividing line.

MartinR, I strive to understand everything about software that I use. And, I do need to use QT conversion for work. It is for simple web videos. I edit in AIC and need H.264 videos for the web, so I export using QT.

Well, I accidentally left the settings at default and the exported file ended up 1280x720 anyway (even though when I select "options" the size is 640x360. This is all a bit unclear. I always feel like I'm the only person that notices this stuff.

Another example of non-intuitive FCE:

I can select multiple sequences in the browser, right-click and choose "export"... but it only exports one of the sequences (maybe the first in alphabetical order, idk). It should be grayed-out if it doesn't export all the selections.
