GSOD on MacBook

Hi,

I upgraded from Tiger to Snow Leopard about a month ago. Since then, the computer started making a louder, deeper noise as it started up. Yesterday, my husband said he got the spinning rainbow wheel, so he shut the computer down using the power button. When I tried to start up today, it's stuck on the grey screen of death. I get the chime, but nothing else. No apple, no question mark, nothing. I tried rebooting from my OSX disc (both the original and the Snow Leopard), tried booting into safe mode, tried booting holding down the C, holding down the T . . . Nothing. So, is the hard drive dead? And could Snow Leopard have had something to do with it, or is this just weird coincidence?

If there wasn't enough free space on the startup disk when you upgraded to Snow Leopard, that could be at least part of the problem.

Try Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM

If that didn't work, try Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

Try starting up without any peripherals connected such as an external drive, printer, etc.

If nothing has helped, take the MacBook to an Apple store or Apple certified repair shop.
