When I restart my computer, My monitors un-calibrate?

To get them to re-calibrate, I have to physically unplug the mini display (only one) from the video card, wait a few seconds, then plug back in. Is my video card shot? It's only a year old.

I feel like an idiot. In the system preferences> universal access> seeing menu, there's an enhance contrast slider with a keyboard shortcut assigned to it. I must have button mashed and put it out of whack. My whites were blinding and my dark greys were pitch black. Why apple would put this slider in "universal access" and not in "displays"? I've wasted countless hours, hooking up displays to other Macs, Re-Calibrating monitors a hundred times, and fooling with menus manually on the individual monitors. I was just about to run out and buy a new card... All because of a contrast slider in the universal access menu.
