Unfortunately, downgrading is not supported. You may be able to find a way to back it out via Google. Personally, I'd be having a long hard talk with your daughter's friend's parents about compansating you for the loss of your phone until fall.

The only real option here would be to pay the $99 and join the iOS developer's program so you can register the device and get it working under the iOS 5 beta. That or get them to shell out for a new phone to replace yours and give them the one now running iOS 5.

Oh yeah, and ban your daughter's friend from ever entering your home again... not to mention grounding your daughter.

I mean that Apple does not support it. In fact, they have explicitly warned developers that if they install the iOS 5 beta, there is no way to go back to a previous version of iOS, only forward.

Yes, people have figured out how to do it. Not everyone is going to be able to do so, especially those who are not developers (iOS or otherwise) or very computer savy and willing to take some risks. It's also possible to install apps from outside the app store or get a locked phone to work on another network without an official unlock, but I doubt anyone would argue that those things are or should be "supported".

It can be reverted to original state :

1st : the phone need to be put into "recovery mode" ( the plug into itunes logo has to appear ). If such a iDevice is then connected to itunes, it will automatically say that this phone needs to be restored. ITunes must be a final version ( see in "about itunes", it MUST NOT say "iTunes 10.5 beta" but rather "iTunes 10.3.x or iTunes 10.4.x" without "beta" in name ).

Such official ( non-beta itunes ) iTunes will then download the official ( non-beta iOS) iOS for the phone ( in this case this would be 4.3.5 ) and install it back onto the phone and all is good again.

For how to put the idevice into recovery mode see this article : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
