Proxy server settings for AppStore

Hello

Is there a way to make AppStore work via a proxy server?

In my case all MACs behind Squid Proxy server and no matter what exclusions I make on proxy, AppStore won't purchase apps. All works well until I click INSTALL.

Looking at proxy log files I can see AppStore getting page components (ie. jpg images) from non-Apple site(s), but it looks like AppStore's purchase process ignores proxy settings and trying DIRECT connection.

If AppStore ignores proxy setting, what would be the IP address(es) for appstore servers to add firewall exclusions.

Hi

Do you do SSL inspection on your proxy? If so you need to add an exception for *.apple.com*. We had the same issue and it was a certificate/SSL issue. Adding the SSL exception fixed the problem.

Could you please let me know how to "add the SSL exception for *.apple.com*" ? Can the SSL exception be done by mac (system preferences?) or by proxy server ?

Macmini server, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

Hi F_F

We use a proxy server internally to inspect internet traffic including ipad/iphone traffic and I had to add the exception on the server. Do you use a proxy server and if so do you manage it?

Thank you very much for your prompt reply.

We have to use a proxy server in our organization.

That is in my case (MacOS Lion)

System Preferences, Network, Ethernet, Advanced, Proxies Tab and

Check "Automatic Proxy Configuration" and insert URL of Proxy Configuration File as "http://... /proxy.pac".

I am only a user of the organization network and not a manager.

Could you please advise me how to ask our system manager for the setting of the proxy server to "add the SSL exception for *.apple.com*" ?

This all depends on the type of proxy server you are using such as Internet Acceleration Server, Websense, Bluecoat, Squid....they all would require something different to be done in order to work.

The best advice would be to ask your admin if you use SSL inspection and if you do then I would request that he puts an exception in so that traffic to *.apple.com is not to SSL inspected. This is what fixed my particular issue.
