Macbook with fresh install, having trouble booting?

I have already re-partitioned and am working with a clean install. I just don't understand why I am having to press a key sequence to boot into OS X when it's the only OS on the hard drive.

Also, after shutting down the MBP and pressing the power button to bring the MBP back online, the Mac sounds a single beep and then the screen stays black, until I power it off again and then reboot and rapidly press X, this results in a successful boot with no beeps. Not quite sure why pushing X is the solution, but I would like to not have to do that. I checked the EFI firmware, and everything appears to be up-to-date. Not quite sure what else I can do. Any and all ideas welcomed, I think I've tried everything I can think of aside from reseating the RAM which I don't believe is the problem.

Tried that too, but the way I had to do it was press X just to get it to go the white screen, and quickly switch to command+option+p+r. Resets once, then on reboot has one long beep and hangs on black screen. I appreciate the willingness of your help.

Pressing X forces the Mac to boot to OS X, according to this. That is what I have been using to get the Mac to boot. I tried to reload the firmware myself, but it said it was up-to-date and didn't need an upgrade. For now I can manage, by using the key sequence until it loads, and I don't feel like paying to have a simple issue fixed that I can do myself. Especially since my coverage ended. I will just keep searching for an answer, but I do thank you again for your help on the matter. I am actually going to try using the program called boot picker and see if that may be a work around. I will post back if that is a possible fix.

Still had to hold the X key...Looks like reseating the ram is an alternate fix for someone else who had a similar issue. I will perform that and report back.

Reseated the RAM, no luck. Seems like the trick is to cut it off and on 4 times, and on the fifth time hold down x and it boots haha. Such a strange issue, but once it boots it runs fine.

Looks like the single beep I am hearing is a code for no RAM installed. However, the RAM is installed, and it shows up that I have the full four gigs when I get it to boot. Also, the beep only occurs during the first power cylce. After that, it does not occur again.

Anyone have any more ideas as to why it would do that?

Also, I found out that holding X is not a requirement to get it to boot. It just boots every fifth time. So when booting I go through this process:

1. Power on - single beep - Power off

2. Power on - nothing - Power off

3. Power on - nothing - Power off

4. Power on - nothing - Power off

5. Power on - boots right up.

Finally!!!! I found a fix. Looks like all I had to do with it was reflash the firmware. If anyone else runs into an issue similar to mine, here is a great link with pretty good instructions on how to fix it. So glad to have my MBP running smooth again.
