How to turn off Open Directory?

How do I turn off Open Directory? In Server Admin.app, if I uncheck the Open Directory service and click 'save', it re-checks itself on.

I am not in front of my mac, but I figure this out the other night.

You need to change setting back to standalone server first.

In Lion, you have to install the server admin apps (server admin and workgroup manager - it's a separate download). Once you configure Server Admin to manage Open Directory, you can then demote the server to standalone from there.
